The MAINE Event is ON!
The Maine Mystique, Maine: The Way Life Should Be, and Vacationland are popular catch phrases used to capture the special place that is the "Pine Tree State". From lobsters and lighthouses to potatoes and ployes (if you haven't yet tried this unique delicacy - you will), the events off-venue at 2010 USSA Junior Olympics are meant to introduce (or re-introduce) you to all that Maine, Aroostook County and Presque Isle, hosts for the 2010 USSA Junior Olympics, have to offer. We're calling it "The MAINE Event" and it's on! We invite you to join us for the best in Maine hospitality, culture, food, and, of course, fun!
From the pageantry of the opening ceremonies at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where the diverse cultures of Aroostook County will come alive through song, dance and vivid imagery; to the closing ceremonies at Northern Maine Community College themed to provide you with a lasting image of the best of our region and state complete with its culinary treasures, the excitement of the cultural activities planned will match that of the sporting events.
Festivities will include a social event at the Northeastland Hotel in heart of the downtown Presque Isle for parents of the competing athletes who have traveled from around the country to attend this first of its kind event hosted in Maine. Area community and civic organizations will come together to officially welcome our guests at the lively gathering. Houlton Farms Dairy Ice Cream, an Aroostook County tradition and the best tasting ice cream east of the Mississippi (we certainly think so), will be served up to the competing athletes at the traditional mid-week ice cream social hosted by the Aroostook Centre Mall with Karaoke to follow! Coaches of the visiting teams will enjoy great food and beverage and a glimpse at the region's Scot-Irish culture at an event especially for them hosted by the Irish Setter Pub.
And that's just a glimpse of what you'll experience. There's much more to see and do. Great places to eat, explore and be entertained. For more information on our region, we encourage you to visit the following website: http://www.visitaroostook.com/
